Romney Hosted At Luncheon With University Alum
By Samuel Rubenfeld
SENIOR NEWS EDITOR
MINNEAPOLIS–A University alum and former trustee with close ties to Republican candidate John McCain and many highly influential neo-conservatives hosted a lunch for former McCain rival Mitt Romney Tuesday at the Marriot here.
Mark Broxmeyer, a Long Island real estate developer who, while he served on the University’s Board of Trustees, was sued in May 2006 by Latino tenants of his for actions they said violated the Fair Housing Act. The case was settled out of court in November of that year.
Broxmeyer would not answer any questions from The Chronicle outside the luncheon as he walked with Romney to the elevator across a lobby area.
The Chronicle and two correspondents from CNN cornered Romney outside the luncheon:
The University Has A Delegate, Of A Sort
DENVER–The University has its own ambassador to the conventions: Lawrence Levy.
Levy, who spent decades reporting and writing columns on suburban politics for Newsday, is now the executive director of the University’s Center For Suburban Studies, and he is writing columns this week for the Albany Times-Union.

Finding The Students Working The Convention
DENVER–Outside a Jamba Juice store at the 16th Street Mall, I literally ran into former Student Government Association Vice President Catherine Legnetti, Melissa Calderone and Professor David Green, all of whom are working with the Washington Center at the Democratic National Convention.
Legnetti works security in the Pepsi Center, Calderone “bounces around from job to job” and Green serves as a faculty leader for the University delegation. All three are staying at Regis University, and they commute to the convention site by a shuttle bus.
More to come on their their travails this week.
