DENVER–Hillary Clinton formally released her delegates, allowing them to vote for Barack Obama during roll call, in a highly anticipated speech to delegates and supporters Wednesday at the Colorado Convention Center.

Her speech, which she called an attempt to get all of her “at last count, 1,920 delegates” together in a room, was a tearful affair for many of her most fervent supporters.

“I am here to release you as delegates,” she said to jeers and groans, adding later, “I am not telling you what to do…I signed my ballot for Senator Obama.”

She thanked her supporters for their work. “Yes, we didn’t make it but boy did we have a good time,” she said.

A Clinton delegate from Fort Greene, New York, Jane Galvin-Lewis, said she’ll vote for Obama in November after voting for Clinton during balloting this morning. “Who in the world would vote for McCain?” she said. “Bush is sickness, McCain is death.”

Update: Video of a Clinton supporter from Kentucky who signed the petition to get Clinton’s name in nomination:
